Thuja occidentalis 'Anna Van Vloten'

Height: 18 inches
Spread: 18 inches
Sunlight: Full sun / Partial shade
Hardiness Zone: 3a
Other Names: Eastern White Cedar

Description:
A spectacular dwarf evergreen shrub with very fine-textured yellow juvenile foliage that turns golden in winter. It naturally forms a compact, globe-shaped habit without pruning, making it ideal for home gardens, rock gardens, and small spaces. It performs best with some sun and benefits from protection against drying winds.

Ornamental Features:
Anna's Magic Ball Arborvitae is a dwarf conifer prized for its ornamental rounded form. It has attractive yellow evergreen foliage, with fine, ferny sprays that turn rich gold in fall and retain their color through winter.

Landscape Attributes:
Anna's Magic Ball Arborvitae is a dense multi-stemmed evergreen shrub with a naturally rounded form. Its extremely fine and delicate texture adds refinement to landscape compositions and should be used to full effect.

This is a relatively low maintenance shrub. When pruning is necessary, only trim back the current season's new growth, aside from removing any dieback. It has no significant negative characteristics.

Anna's Magic Ball Arborvitae is recommended for the following landscape applications:
- Mass Planting
- Hedges and Screening
- Rock and Alpine Gardens
- General Garden Use

Planting & Growing:
Anna's Magic Ball Arborvitae will grow to be about 18 inches tall at maturity, with a spread of 18 inches. It fills out right to the ground and does not necessarily require facer plants in front. It grows at a slow rate and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for approximately 30 years.

This shrub performs best in full sun to partial shade and prefers average to moist growing conditions. It should not be allowed to dry out. It is not particular about soil type or pH and is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution. Planting in a sheltered location and applying a thick mulch around the root zone in winter helps protect it in exposed or colder microclimates. This is a selection of a native North American species.
